We’ve already given you our top five reasons. Here are five more:

  1. You can get away from noisy neighbors! Not many people want to feel as if they are living “dorm life” again with partiers underneath blaring their music at 3 a.m. and the basketball team dribbling their basketballs above. It can be annoying when your neighbors are so close that you can hear them sneeze while you reply with a “Bless You” through the walls. Home owners may not always be able to avoid noisy neighbors, but at least those neighbors are not shaking your chandelier as they stomp down the hallway.

  2. You don’t have to deal with a landlord. Landlords, like ice cream, come in many flavors. Some of those flavors are sweet (think “Cake Batter”), and some are not-so-sweet (think, “Jalapeno”). Some landlords are unfriendly or inflexible, and they will not hesitate to begin the eviction process if the rent does not arrive on time. Other landlords are so uninvolved with the property that repairs do not happen for months or even years. When you are a homeowner, you negate the “middle man,” (a.k.a. “the landlord”), and you have the freedom to conduct business on your own terms.

  3. You have unique hobbies. You are a talented musician who likes to “jam” with your band, or you are a fitness instructor who needs to practice your routine. You need a place to live too, but if you have professions or hobbies that are noisy or require space to move around, renting just is not an option. Home owners can select properties with the space they need to meet their needs.

  4. You don’t have to pay security deposits. When you rent, you deposit money that sits and does nothing for you while you are renting. If you are lucky, you may receive some or all of that money when the terms of your lease have ended. For most renters, security deposits do not work out in the renter’s favor. There is always some problem that needs to be corrected, and the renter’s security deposit often seems to be the exact amount the landlord requires to fix that problem. Home owners don’t have to deal with this.

  5. You want to live the American Dream. The American Dream includes home ownership, and most people agree that home ownership equates autonomy, independence and a sense of accomplishment. Renting just does not provide the same satisfaction.
