Two words:  Programmable Thermostat.

By turning your thermostat back by 10-15% for 8 hours, you can save as much as 10% a year on your heating and cooling bills.  You can do this automatically by installing a programmable thermostat or an automatic setback.

Programmable thermostats allow you to preset  the schedule for your heating or air-conditioning unit.  As a result, the equipment does not run as much when your house is unoccupied or when you are asleep.  Some thermostats can store and repeat multiple daily settings--up to six temperature settings a day.  Often, you can manually override these settings without affecting the rest of the daily or weekly programming.  Programmable thermostats are simple to install, and they cost anywhere from $19-$119.
