There are many schools of thought when it comes to selling a car. Some people would prefer to avoid the hassle and simply trade it in at a dealership, but this usually comes with the knowledge that the vehicle owner will not get the full value for the vehicle. Some people put up with the hassle in order to play the “negotiation game” with their vehicle. They put their vehicle up “For Sale By Owner,” and the vehicle owner often walks away with more money than he/she would have gotten at the dealership. So how is selling a home different?

How you decide to sell your car is a personal decision--so is how you decide to sell your house. We have some pretty convincing arguments, however, about why “For Sale By Owner” is NOT a SMART choice for selling your property.

Most people believe that they will pocket more cash by selling their house themselves. By cutting out the sales commission, they believe they are making more money. This is very rarely the case. In fact, “For Sale By Owners” often sell their properties for LESS than a professional real estate agent--even after a 6% sales commission is factored in.

Most people also believe that they don’t need a real estate agent because they can market their property on the internet. This also is false. The internet has definitely changed the way real estate transactions are marketed, and buyers use it to search for their properties, but it has not eliminated the need for real estate agents. In fact, most people still rely heavily upon a real estate agent to complete the transaction.
